Home Phototherapy is Effective!

UV Phototherapy is an Effective Treatment for Psoriasis and More

UV Phototherapy is often the most effective psoriasis treatment. People typically see some improvement immediately and experience clearing with 20 to 25 treatments. Long term remission is experienced for 90 to 95% of cases. Success rates and remission rates are higher for UV phototherapy than for any oral medication or biologic on the market.While psoriasis treatment is the most common use of phototherapy equipment, phototherapy is also highly effective in treating vitiligo, eczema, hair loss and over 25 other skin conditions.  < learn more >

#1 New and established indications for phototherapy with narrowband UVB. M. Berneburg. Journal Der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft = Journal Of The German Society Of Dermatology: JDDG [J Dtsch Dermatol Ges], 2005 Nov; Vol. 3 (11), pp. 874-82; PMID: 16232274;

ABSTRACT: Phototherapy with ultraviolet (UV) irradiation of wavelengths between 280 and 320 nm (UV-B) is a safe and effective treatment for a variety of inflammatory skin diseases. In addition to standard broad band UVB, narrow band phototherapy with fluorescent bulbs emitting near monochromatic UV between 310-315 nm has become an important treatment for diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis or vitiligo. Other diseases respond favorably to narrow band UV-B phototherapy, the number of potential indications for such phototherapy is continuously growing. The differential effects of narrow band UV-B phototherapy in comparison to other UV phototherapies, as well as new and established indications for this treatment modality are reviewed.

#2 Narrow-band Ultraviolet B is a Useful and Well-Tolerated Treatment for Vitiligo. Lubomira Scherschun, MD; Jane J. Kim, MD; Henry W. Lim, MD. Journal of American Academy of Dermatology. VOL 44, Number 6. June 2001

Seven diverse vitiligo patients treated for one year with narrow-band UVB therapy. Five of the seven achieved 75% repigmentation with a mean of 19 treatments.

CONCLUSION: Treatment protocol resulted in rapid repigmentation in many patients, including those with skin phototypes IV and V. In accordance with previous studies, this report indicates that narrow-band UVB is a useful and well-tolerated therapy for vitiligo.
