Equipment Selection Guide
Choosing the Right Home Phototherapy Unit is easy:
1. Which area of the body is affected?
- For widespread areas, you'll want a full-body unit.
Treat entire body quickly in few easy sessions by standing in front of (Panosol™
II) or in (Foldalite™
III) unit.
- For a few patches or scalp psoriasis, choose a
handheld UVB
or UVA spot unit.
- If only hands or feet are involved, the
Hand/Foot™ II is the perfect
choice.
2. Do you need UVA, UVB, or narrowband UVB lights?
- Your doctor will decide the right wavelength for your
skin and condition, but...
- UVA light is used with psoralen (PUVA), has longer treatment times, requires more doctor visits to monitor treatment,
but is sometimes the most effective
- UVB light is generally safer and easier than UVA. Units cost a bit more, but you save with fewer co-pays and less time.
- Narrow band UVB lights are safest and fastest but may not
always be appropriate for your condition. Learn more about
narrow band UVB.
3. How many lamps? More bulbs give a higher
dosage, so treatment time is quicker. However, your doctor will determine which is best
for your condition and skin type.

Treat entire body at once.
Available with narrow band UVB lights only.
- 6' Panosol™ II panel takes less space and costs less, but does not provide full circumference coverage. It
is ideal for partial involvement such torso or back. For a full body involvement, you can turn a time or two to get a complete treatment. Adding wings to the Panosol™ II extends the coverage area to your sides.
Available with UVA lamps, UVB lamps, or narrow band UVB lights.
6. What skin condition are you being treated for?
Most doctors recommend narrowband UVB lights for phototherapy
vitiligo treatment and
psoriasis phototherapy treatment, but there are
many reasons that your doctor could opt for either UVA lamps or broadband UVB
lamps for you. Check with your doctor regarding your particular condition, history, as well as the latest research.
