Equipment Selection Guide

Ready to Choose a Home Phototherapy Unit? Here’s what’s involved:

1. Which area of the body is affected?

2. Do you need UVA, UVB, or narrowband UVB lights?

The right wavelength for you will be determined by your doctor. Still, here’s the scoop:
  • UVA light is used with PUVA, has longer treatment times, and requires more doctor visits to monitor your treatment
  • UVB light is safer and easier than UVA in many cases. Units cost a bit more, but cost and time savings are seen over time.
  • Narrow band UVB lights are safest and fastest but may not always be appropriate for your condition.  Learn more about narrow band UVB.

3. How many lamps?

Simply put, more bulbs give a higher dosage, so treatment time is quicker. However, your doctor will decide which is best since your condition and skin type will impact this.

4. Use your answers to choose from our Product Selection Table

5. Which full body style will meet my needs?

  • The Foldalite III® is 50 % roomier than any other full-body cabinet on the market today, yet folds flat to 9”. For full-body coverage, it’s the best choice. Available with narrow band UVB lights only.
  • 6' Panosol II® panel takes less space and costs less, but does not provide full circumference coverage. It’s ideal for partial involvement such torso or back. For a full body involvement, you can turn a time or two to get a complete treatment.  Available with UVA, UVB, or narrow band UVB lights.

6. What condition are you being treated for?

Most doctors recommend narrowband UVB lights for vitiligo and psoriasis, but there are many reasons that your doctor could opt for either UVA or broadband UVB for you. Check with your doctor regarding your particular condition, history, as well as the latest research.
