Supporting Your Patients

Phototherapy is good medicine

The research supporting phototherapy is solid. Patients treated with phototherapy systems experience clearing after 20 to 25 treatments with long term remission in 90 to 95% of cases. Safety and efficacy of phototherapy has been long-established in the research. Success and remission rates are higher for phototherapy than for any other form of treatment.

Phototherapy at home versus at the office

The decision of whether to provide phototherapy treatments to a particular patient at the office or prescribe a home unit is between you and your patient. The major factor influencing this decision is convenience. A home phototherapy unit can translate into more consistent treatment times for chronic sufferers and better patient follow-through for patients that have difficulty getting to the clinic. When a home unit is prescribed, patients are seen to monitor progress, and the home unit has timers to allow the physician to regulate the prescription.

Phototherapy is reimbursed by most insurers

Insurers almost universally recognize and cover phototherapy. As with many medical devices, they often require you to document the medical necessity of prescribing a home unit.

Medicare reimburses phototherapy treatment and phototherapy units

National Biological works with your patients to obtain the necessary insurance information and fill out required forms. We walk your patients through the process step by step to obtain the maximum reimbursements possible.

Our phototherapy units have many safety features to ensure that patients get exactly what you prescribe.

We have links to many resources including the latest journal articles discussing phototherapy systems and websites about psoriasis, vitiligo, eczema, and phototherapy.
